Our air conditioner provides relief during hot summer days, and a comforting warmth on cold winter nights. But if you start to notice that your air conditioner doesn’t quite have that “kick” it once did, it might be time for a service.
Although air conditioners have come a long way in the past few years, they are still not a set and forget appliance. The air quality and condition of your home has a direct impact on your way of life, so keeping it clean and running efficiently has to be a priority.
Signs you need a service
Have you noticed that your air conditioner has weak airflow? Maybe it has been emitting a strange smell, or perhaps it’s simply not heating and cooling as much as it used to.
These are all signs that your air conditioner needs a service and shouldn’t be ignored.
Why a service needs to be carried out
Air conditioners do more than heat and cool – they purify the air in your home or office. The filters inside air conditioners catch dust, pollen and other bacteria floating in the air. These pollutants can cause mould growth as well as build up that can damage the machine. Not only can this be damaging to the air conditioner, but clogging up the filter can lead to your air conditioning unit having to work harder to push through the build-up. This can cause higher running costs and less energy efficiency.

What is a high pressure coil clean?
Your air conditioner has two coils, evaporator coils and condenser coils. When these coils become dirty over time, your air conditioner no longer heats or cools efficiently, leaving you with a system that costs more to run, with a lower quality output and is potentially harmful to your health, especially if mould spores have started growing. Cleaning these coils with high pressure cold water is the most effective way to remove dirt, grime, mould and bacteria. Sometimes in extreme cases, a non-toxic cleaning solution may be applied.
But don’t DIY – it takes an experienced hand with the correct equipment and knowledge to know how much pressure the coils need in order to be cleaned, not damaged.
If you think it’s about time you got your air conditioner serviced and cleaned, get in contact with Voltair today.
